Happy legalization anniversary! With one year of cannabis legalization behind us, there is a lot to reflect on and look forward to. It has been a journey with many twists and turns along the way, but what would an exciting journey be without them? Before we go any further, we would like to thank you, Canada, for welcoming us into your communities and allowing us to be your trusted guides in this new industry. We have learned as much from you as you have from us!
A Blossoming Industry
Since we opened our doors in October 2018, you may have noticed several new cultivars and brands on our strain walls. In fact, as of August 2019, there were 221 federal cannabis license holders (cultivation and sales licenses); almost 100 more than October 2018. This level growth is a good sign that there will be even more amazing products to come.
The Rise of Acceptance
Cannabis can be a touchy subject to talk about with many people, even after legalization. However, with many cities allowing public consumption, it is more common to see people using cannabis on an afternoon stroll or on a night out in the city. Even without consuming it, the social acceptability of cannabis can be improved through discussion and education with our friends and family. At Fire & Flower, we pride ourselves on the creation of safer, inclusive spaces to ask questions and learn about cannabis.

Locations! Locations! Locations!
The rising number of retail outlets across the country has contributed $8.6 billion to the Canadian GDP as of July 2019. Cannabis can stimulate the mind, body, and the economy! Alberta is one of the current leaders in the retail sector, with just over 300 cannabis stores across the province. Although some other provinces & territories aren’t quite at that number yet, there will be more to come soon. We are looking forward to joining more communities across the country in the coming year.
What’s to Come?
With the next wave of legalization, we can expect a new variety of products including edibles, concentrates, and topicals. This is an important moment because it will ensure product testing for quality standards and cannabinoid content, just like the current regulation of legal cannabis products. The law will also provide more opportunities for further research on the effects of cannabis in various forms. While the full implementation of this law is expected to come into effect in December, we can expect to have these products in the new year.
